Triangle Credit Union’s Privacy Policy

Triangle Credit Union is owned by its members and run by a board of directors you elect. You can be confident that financial privacy is a top priority of your credit union. We are required by law to explain how we collect, use and safeguard your personal financial information. This notice describes how we protect the privacy of your personal information, and gives you an opportunity to let us know if you do not want certain information about you disclosed to other businesses.

We are committed to providing you with competitive products and services to meet your financial needs, which necessitates that we share information about you to complete your transactions and to provide you with certain financial opportunities. In order to do so we may share information about you with our affiliated third party financial service provider, Triangle Financial Group, which provides access to financial planning, investment, and insurance services.

Triangle Credit Union’s Triangle CU Mobile Banking App periodically collects, transmits, and uses geolocation information for enabling features that prevent fraudulent card use and alerts, but only if the End User expressly authorizes collection of such information. Geolocation information can be monitored on a continuous basis in the background only while the solution is being used or not at all, depending on the End User’s selection. The End User can change his/her/their location permissions at any time in their device settings. Some features included in digital banking may request access to data located on the device used to access digital banking. This may include biometric, camera, contacts, and location data. End Users will be prompted to allow access to this data, and if access is not allowed, the feature requiring that data will not be fully functional.  

We may also disclose information about you under other circumstances as permitted or required by law. These disclosures typically include information to follow your instructions as you authorize, to conduct the operations of the credit union, or to protect the security of our financial records. We may also enter into agreements with other companies that provide either services to us or additional financial products for you to consider. Under these arrangements, we may disclose the necessary information, only the information needed to market and effect the particular product or service, to companies that perform marketing or other services on our behalf. In no instance does Triangle Credit Union provide any information that will allow companies marketing their financial services to access your account without your express consent.

To protect our members’ privacy, we only work with companies that agree to maintain strong confidentiality protections and limit the use of information we provide. We do not permit these companies to sell to other third parties the information we provide. Triangle Credit Union does not sell membership lists or your nonpublic personal information. Online Privacy

Digital Insight™, Triangle Credit Union’s website host and online banking provider, logs communications that are attempted or established to the Internet Banking websites. Security Logs are kept for at least 6 months. Security Logs include Intrusion Detection logs, Firewall logs, and Web Server logs.

Intrusion Detection and Prevention logs

Logs are monitored, collected, and stored for the perimeter intrusion detection/prevention appliances, web application intrusion detection/prevention appliances, and the web application host-based query string intrusion detection and prevention software.

Firewalls

Firewall logs are monitored, collected, and stored for the perimeter firewall.

Client Browsers

The Internet Banking websites support several types and versions of client browsers. The most common is Microsoft Edge since it comes with Microsoft software. The other versions supported include Google Chrome, Firefox, Safari, and Opera. The mobile banking platform supports mobile phone browsers that support XHTML, or WML technologies over HTTPS.

Browser communications including gets, puts, query strings, and other action variables are collected through IIS logs. Client browser information is also collected and stored to provide additional identification controls and login history for each Credit Union member. Each member receives a session only cookie that is downloaded temporarily to client system. Session cookies are used to maintain the session communications. Once a browser is reset, the session cookie is no longer valid.

Triangle Credit Union does not collect any personal data about you (such as your name, email address or other contact information) except when you specifically and knowingly provide such information.

We do allow third-party companies, including Google Analytics, to use cookies to collect certain anonymous, non-personally identifiable information when you visit our website. This helps us measure the performance of our online advertising campaigns and analyze visitor activity on our websites.

The information collected may include things like what time you visited our website, how long you were on our site, if you’ve been to the site before, what web pages you visited, and what type of browser you used to access our website. This information helps us identify ways to modify and improve our websites. Triangle Credit Union considers the information collected on our websites valuable.

Links to third party websites may be provided on trianglecu.org for your convenience. By accessing these links, you are leaving Triangle Credit Union’s website and entering a website hosted by another party. Triangle Credit Union does not directly support or guarantee claims made by these sites. Please be advised that you will no longer be subject to, or under the protection of, the privacy and security policies of Triangle Credit Union’s website. We encourage you to read and evaluate the privacy and security policies of the site you are entering, which may be different than those of Triangle Credit Union.

Information Triangle Credit Union Collects and Discloses About You

Triangle Credit Union collects the following information about you from a variety of sources:

From membership and loan applications and other forms you submit to us, we obtain information such as name, address, social security number, income, drivers’ license, and age.

From your transactions with us, our affiliated credit union service organization and other companies that work closely with us to provide you with financial products and services, we obtain information such as your account balances, payment history, parties to transactions, and credit card usage.

From consumer reporting agencies, we obtain information on your creditworthiness and credit history. From verifications of information you provide on applications and other forms, we obtain information from current or past employers, other financial institutions and other sources listed on the application.

SMS opt-in consent or phone numbers for the purpose of SMS are not shared with third parties by Triangle Credit Union.

How to Opt Out of Certain Disclosures of Information About You

If you prefer that we not disclose information about you to certain businesses, you may “opt out” of these disclosures; that is, you may direct us not to make those disclosures. This “opt out” will not apply to information sharing that is permitted by law, such as with collection companies and credit bureaus, or to information sharing with companies that perform marketing services on our behalf.

Unless we hear from you, we reserve the right to disclose the following information about you to non-affiliated businesses engaged in marketing services on our behalf or other products and services that we believe would be beneficial to our members.

However, if you wish to opt out of disclosures to parties that are not affiliated with the credit union, you must:

Note to non-member joint account holders: Anyone of you may exercise the right to opt out, even if you are not actually a member of the credit union. Triangle Credit Union will treat an opt out request from any one party to an account as if all of you directed us to not make disclosures to nonaffiliated third parties to which the opt out right applies.

How Triangle Credit Union Protects Your Information

We restrict access to information about you to those employees who need to know that information to provide products and services to you. We maintain physical, electronic and procedural safeguards that comply with federal regulations to guard your personal financial information.

We want to bring to your attention that there may be instances where you erroneously believe the credit union has released personal information about you. For example, information about a secured loan you have from our credit union may be publicly available in local government records, and a business has compiled this information in order to market you a product that this credit union does not endorse.

As a member of our credit union, we remind you that you have a responsibility to safeguard your financial information by protecting your identification access numbers and reviewing your periodic account statements. What You Can Do To Help Protect Your Privacy

Triangle Credit Union is committed to protecting the privacy of its members. Members can help by following these simple guidelines:

Protect your account numbers, card numbers, PIN’s(personal identification numbers) and passwords. Never keep your PIN with your debit card, ATM card, or credit card which can provide free access to your accounts if your card is lost or stolen.

Use caution when disclosing your account numbers, social security numbers, etc. to other persons. If someone calls you, explains the call is on behalf of the credit union and asks for your account number, you should beware. Official credit union staff will have access to your information and will not need to ask for it.

Keep your information with us current. It is important that we have current information on how to reach you. If we detect potentially fraudulent or unauthorized activity or use of an account, we will attempt to contact you immediately. If your address or phone number changes, please let us know.
